Why do Indians always ask questions on Yahoo Answers about how to lighten their skin???????

Every single time on the skin and beauty section, there are always, always questions asking "How do I get fair and lovely?" or "How do I whiten my skin" or similar rubbish...

Quite frankly it is weird.. Is this all you people think about, and what precisely are you trying to achieve.. are you trying to look white??

Even people who have travelled to India say your country is completely fixated with skin shade, skin lightening products like Fair and Lovely and trying to look whiter than you are!

So why do most of you lighten you skin????

Why do Indians always ask questions on Yahoo Answers about how to lighten their skin???????
Probably for the same reason a lot of white women want to get a tan...grass is always greener...I'm a fair skinned blonde and always wanted dark wavy hair and dark skin...go figure:)
Reply:It's a status symbol, it says your rich enough to avoid going out in the sun to do manual labor. Having a sun tan to us is the same, showing we can afford to go on vacation, or lay out on a nearby beach. Go figure
Reply:i'm not indian or anything, but i'm sure that they do it for the same reason that people here in america are obsessed with tanning. sun tanning, self tanning lotions and sprays, and those tanning beds....i think that society EVERYWHERE thinks that beauty is something that can only be achieved by changing yourself.
Reply:I DON'T THINK WE ARE TRYING TO LOOK WHITE BUT YOU GUYS ALWAYS BLABBER ABOUT GOING TO THE TAN AND GET DARKER SKIN THAT MEANS YOU GUYS ARE JEALOUS AND YOU DON'T LIKE YOUR LIGHTER SKIN AND WE WANNA GET LIGHT BECAUSE WHILE ALL THE WHITE'S ARE GOING BROWN SO WE THOUGHT THAT WHY NOT WHITE!!! QUITE FRANKLY THAT'S GAY!!
Reply:Fair color is considered beautiful in India. However, its not same as cauacasians or orientals do. As their fair color does not have that beautiful brown hue. Therefore Indian fair color is a bit different from caucasians one.

Hisorically, fair skinned people had higher positions in Indian history. Native East Indians were actually dark brown skin people. First Aryan came, they were fair skinned. They made all native Inidans slave and invented " Hindu" religion in which Aryans were always superior caste. Then came Muslims from Arabia and central Asia. Again they were fair skin, and they made a rule that all land belong to them. Though they did not invent caste system ( As it is strictly probibited in Islam) but they kept their upper hand. Then came British. We all know, how arrogant Birtish could be. So breifly, fair color was the color of ruling class in India. Still majority of Indians ( I must say 80 - 90 %) have this underlying complex.

It is not the same as here in Europe or America. Here untanned skin really looks ugly with its reddish tinge. Therefore tanning makes it look better. Plus, it does have some upper class or Urban component to it. But bottom line is, tanning does make look people better. On the other hand I think Indian women are beautiful as such. Their fair color is more like a complex.
Reply:you are at fault....I am brown and i love my skin color, I dont do anything to look white....I hate white skinned people who think they are better.....you are a racist.....In India we only have donkeys white in color.
Reply:That is the cultural concept about fair complexion. Ordinarily wheatish complexion with pink tint is the ideal complexion which everyone dreams of. That's nothing unnatural.
Reply:This is just not Indian thing.

It is all about change and control of your life and controlling the nature to great extent.

White people all over the world spend time and money to Tan by artificial light or sun light in face of chances for getting skin cancer. They do not have to ask about it because they know what to do if they want to turn brown or even black. Application of black or brown make up looks more natural also as compare to white make up.

On the other hand if a black person feels like turning white it is not that easy. It can be done with some good results but in most cases it does not produce satisfactory results so people seek advise.

There are other reasons also.
Reply:Why do you feel you are better than south indians? You aren't better than anyone if you actually sink low enough to write like this. (this is for the answer just above mine)
