Do asian babies skin color lighten or darken as they get older?

My husband is chinese and med asian skin color and I am irish with light to med white skin...we had a baby boy 3 weeks ago and he has very fair skin and we were wondering do amer/asian babies skin darken as they get older or lighten.

Do asian babies skin color lighten or darken as they get older?
Depends on the baby!

I am amer-asian (1/2 Korean 1/2 Scandanavian) and my skin is actually slightly darker than either of my parents. (My Korean mom has white skin like a china doll, and dad is a typical fair-skinned Dane, but my skin tone is closer to that of my more tan Korean relatives).

As a rule of thumb, boys tend to be slightly darker than girls (this is true in any race) due to the effects of Testosterone vs. Estrogen on the skin. At puberty, girls tend to slightly lighten and boys tend to slightly darken (from whatever skintone they had as children)... but often times the change is so slight that it isn't very noticable.

Your baby certainly is going to be within the range of you/your husband's skin tone... doubtful that he is going to develop into a nubian!

Why does it matter?
Reply:They naturally get darker as they tan...

It's that simple...
Reply:does it matter
Reply:yes they do
Reply:Wow either you will have a gorgeous fair skinned baby boy or a gorgeous tanned baby, Congratulations let the fun begin lol. I think as the baby is subjected to more sun he will tan. We are waiting to see if our little boy (4months) gets freckles as his Daddy has them so I slather on the suncream lol. I would still love him no matter what tho.
Reply:asian babies usually remain the same.

your baby is not completely asian. most likely he will remain fair. from my experience similar mixed babies with white moms, are usually very fair, some even have whiter skin than pure white people ( i think its cause they dont get red as white people tend to get, you know what i mean-something to do with skin thickness).

i dont want offend anyone, but i love this mixture. all the babies i've seen are just so adorable!

congrats!
Reply:You'd be surprised how strong the Asian blood line is! I'm Mex. and my husband is Asian my daughter was born very fair skinned, as she aged she became dark skinned but with that Asian hue (yellow) both of my boys were born with medium skin tone but one got darker than the other all three look asian and are good looking kids. I always had to beat the guys off my daughter with a stick and the same with the boys! Good luck! Just teach your children the culture of both families, it doesn't really matter what color they are just who they are.
Reply:Both my parents are are Asian, but I was born with blonde hair and very very fair skin (think platnium blonde hair with fair skin). My skin has become tanned, golden tan as people like to call it when they compliment me :) but yes, your baby will be darker.. thats because he will be spending time in the sun. Unless you close him off to society and raise him indoors hehe which most likely you won't. I hope ..
Reply:Depends if hubby is northern or southern Chinese. Northerners have a greater tendency to be fair in adulthood. Fair in the Chinese way -- ivory color, no red undertone like the Irish or other northern Europeans. Cantonese are darker and tend to grow darker with a yellowish undertone as they age.

I'm mixed Cantonese/Shanghaiese/Northerner, myself. I tan fairly easily in the summer but become grubby white in the winter. Haven't notice any overall darkening or lightening. Everything is still pretty much seasonal. LOL

I actually think the majority of Chinese-American (who are mostly Cantonese) and Euro-American mixes end up with skin tones and features approximating northern Chinese.
