How come society doesn't scorn people who darken their skin but it certainly scorns those who lighten it?

Go to any beach in the summer and you can see hordes of white people literally baking themselves in the sun trying to look like Beyonce Knowles, Eva Longoria, Iman or Shemar Moore, but yet if a black person wants to lighten their skin, it's as if the Wrath of Kahn broke loose...

Ironically white people are the ethnicity that should shun the sun as much as possible. Their skin isn't designed to withstand the sun's rays like people with dark complexions.

How come society doesn't scorn people who darken their skin but it certainly scorns those who lighten it?
You're referring to white Western society, right? I think if Blacks lightened their skin, Whites would not be able to identify them as quickly, and thus be unafraid. Sunbathing poses major risks and I tend to think that sun worshipprs are living in the past when life was supposedly simpler and the average Jane and Joe knew nothing about skin cancer.
Reply:Not many people wanna lighten their skin lol...
Reply:What happens if I am nearing forty and use suntan lotion to prevent crow's feet.
Reply:Huh gee I dont know maybe, .............Because darkening your skin is natural... it can happen naturally wether you try or not, just go out in the sun. On the other hand black people who want to look white and lighten their skin is very UNNATURAL and takes surgery or whatever. I cant believe that thought never crossed your mind...
