Why would people want to lighten their skin?

i always hear questions here like "how do i lighten my skin" etc...


what are some reasons why people would want to do that? medical, physical...?


(i mean, it contradicts what more and more teens/adults are doing now- tanning as much as they can whichever way they can!!! lol)

I personally wish people wouldn't be so obsessed with lightening OR darkening their skin.





Why not realize that they're already beautiful?
Reply:because if u look white, people respect you. white people get all the power in this stupid country. i say we get rid of all whites.
Reply:I think that light skin looks better. I am tired of everybody for so long telling us plae people that we need to get a tan, and we need to get dark. So many people say I am too plae, but you know what, I like it!





Some Black people might say it, becuase they are told to look light and not too dark. I think that is bull ****.





But for white poeple, and asian, i think they look better pale, but it depends on personal taste I guess.
Reply:Because society dicatates that this is the norm, Light skinned people wish to darken by darke their skin tone by tanning. So vice versa. Maybe we will all be happy when all races are fully intergrated and we have one race.

Reply:It's different all around the world. In Africa and Asia, being fair-skinned is a huge asset. That's why so many whitening creams and lotions are sold in Asia and women usually avoid the sun. In their perception, light-skinned is appealing.
